2012–2013 WINTER & SPRING iSCORE STUDENT CONTESTS

Homepage Design:  You are invited to submit your iSCORE home page. Home pages will be judged on the use of the Homepage features (Notes and Posts, To Do List, General Goals), as well as the overall attractiveness and creativity of the page.

Best “Work” folder (2 categories):

Performance:  Create and use an iSCORE work folder to help you learn a piece of music, by setting goals, using strategies, and reflecting on your learning.  Your “Work” folder will be judged on your ability to plan and reflect on your work, as well as your use of various multimedia tools (e.g., audio, video).

Composition: Use an iSCORE work folder to help you compose or improvise music, by setting goals, using strategies, and reflecting on your learning. Your “Work” folder will be judged on your ability to plan and reflect on your work, as well as on the composition or improvisation itself. Your composition or improv can be a score, an instrumental/vocal performance (recording or video of a performance of the original composition), or an electronic sound file (e.g., Garage Band, Ableton).

Prizes: Three prizes awarded in each of the three categories.

First prize is a $25 iTunes giftcard

Second prize is a $15 iTunes giftcard

Third prize is a $10 iTunes giftcard

How to enter:

Homepage: Take a screenshot of your homepage and e-mail it to [email protected] by December 8, 2012, 11:59 pm (PST).

Best Artifact: Performance/Composition: Export your artifact (Go to Work Page, click Export), and attach the zip file to an e-mail and send to [email protected] by December 8, 2012, 11:59 pm (PST).

Winners will be notified in January 2013 and winning entries will be featured on the iscorenews.com website.

There is no limit to the number of entries that a student can submit, so enter often! If you have questions, contact us at [email protected].

JUNE 2013: iSCORE STUDIO TEACHERS SHARE AND CELEBRATE

In early June, we hosted a professional development and networking meeting at the Remenyi Music for all of the teachers who took part in the 2012–2013 iSCORE research project in the GTA. There were opportunities to share studio successes, learn about RCM innovations, and discover new learning resources. Good times!

JULY 12-13, 2014: Technology for Inspired Teaching Summit at the RCM

Saturday, July 12, 2014, 2:30 -3:45 pm.  iSCORE workshop presented by Anne Wade (Manager & Information Specialist, Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance, Concordia University) & Jodie Compeau (Piano teacher, Kingston, ON)

During this hands-on workshop you will learn about iSCORE, an online, process-portfolio tool that supports the development of self-regulated learning in music students. You will learn about the ways that iSCORE can help students take charge of their learning and connect with others from their practice space.  

Sunday, July 13, 2014, 1:00 -2:15 pm.  Digital Resource Exchange About Music (DREAM) presented by Heidi Saario (Piano teacher, Toronto, ON & RCM Examiner) & Laura Johnson (Web designer and jazz piano student, RCM).

 This workshop will provide you with a sneak peek into DREAM – a new online resource for music teachers and students that will be released later this year. During the workshop, you will have the opportunity to browse the site for apps, websites, and videos that you can use to support and inspire your students.

July 12 -13, 2014.  Announcement of iSCORE Fellows.  We announced the 2014-2015 iSCORE fellowship and teaching awards at the summit. Congratulations to Nathalie deGrace (iSCORE fellow) and Marlene Sampaio (iSCORE teaching award).
